Creativity: the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of artistic work. It’s a powerful tool that has the potential to make this year truly extraordinary. By leaning into your natural creativity, your goals and passions can gain momentum and flourish. But let’s be honest—life is busy. Distractions are everywhere, pulling our attention in a thousand directions, and that constant noise can suffocate the creativity inside of us.
Recently, I took a small but impactful step: I deleted Instagram from my phone. I wanted to see how it would affect my creativity and my ability to focus on the things I genuinely love. Let me tell you—the results have been incredible. My creativity is flowing, and my mental clarity is stronger than it’s been in a long time.
Here’s the funny part: I’m sharing this insight with you on Instagram (and now the blog). I know it sounds ironic, but hear me out. As creatives, it’s easy to buy into the idea that we need to constantly keep up with trends, scroll for inspiration, and always “be in the know.” But the truth is, we don’t. In fact, stepping away from the constant comparison and noise can be the best thing for our creativity.
It’s a little scary to let go, I’ll admit. But it’s worth it. When you’re not constantly seeing what everyone else is doing, you’re free to focus on what lights you up. You can create work that feels true to you, work that’s aligned with your unique vision and passion.
I want to challenge you to do something: delete Instagram from your phone for just one week. If you need to check messages for your business, log in from your computer instead. Take that time to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with yourself. See what ideas come to life when you give your mind the space it needs to wander and imagine.
You might be surprised by the difference it makes. For me, the shift was almost immediate. Without the constant distraction, I found myself more present, more focused, and—most importantly—more creative.
If you’re worried about managing your social media presence during this time, I’ve got a tip: try using an app like Later to schedule your posts. It’s been a game-changer for me, allowing me to maintain a presence without needing Instagram on my phone. It’s one less distraction, and it’s made a huge difference.
If you have questions about how to manage this or want tips on staying creative, feel free to reach out! I’m here to help and would love to hear how this challenge works for you. Let’s support each other in breaking free from the distractions and leaning into the creativity we already have inside us.
So, are you in? Take the challenge, delete the app, and see what happens. You might just unlock something incredible.
Xx, Libby
